President’s Message Alicia Graham, CMCA, AMS, PCAM, Chapter President

Where has this year gone? We are now in the home stretch, the 4th quarter, which brings the beginning of the end of budget season. The days are shorter, the weather cooler, football is in full swing and for those basketball fans out there, October 16th is opening day for the NBA season.

We had another successful CA Day which featured information/ educational seminars, the tradeshow with industry leading vendors and of course my fellow Board Members, Committee Members, Homeowner Leaders, Business Partners and Community Association Managers alike sharing knowledge and spending a great day together. A special thank you goes out to the committee chairs and members who make this annual event such a success.

As my Board presidency comes to a close, I also want to give a special thank you to our amazing team at the WSCAI Office: Michelle Leary, Tracy Abdul and Mira Fitzsimons. Each one makes my/our job easier. I’ve never met three more dedicated individuals who do nothing more than give 110% toward any/all WSCAI events/ activities/member needs. It makes me proud to be part of an organization that is so well run! I’m also proud to hand the reins off to Karen McDonald. She is a quiet leader who listens to others but also knows when to stand up for what is most important, the good of the community association industry. Karen and I have worked closely over the last 12 months to ensure the transition from one to the other will be seamless. The organization will continue to push forward on the agenda items that mean most: exceptional education and networking opportunities for our members.

Next month I will be celebrating with many of you at WSCAI’s 40th Anniversary Annual Meeting and Awards Gala, November 3rd at the Tulalip Resort Casino and will be passing the baton to Karen McDonald. I couldn’t think of a better person to lead WSCAI for 2019. Welcome Karen! As fulfilling and rewarding as it has been leading WSCAI for 2018, it’s also a full-time job . . . and one with little pay and when I say little pay I mean no pay (I’m looking at you Homeowner Leaders!). An organization of our size has many balls in the air all at once and I’m excited to step into the role of Past President, just to take a breather.

Now that fall is upon us, being in the Pacific Northwest it can be a beautiful transitional season with the weather cooling down, the fall colors in full display, and whether you love it or hate it, the rainy season begins. With rain comes the possibility of roof leaks, flooding and overall excessive moisture. In our industry that can be potential for that dreaded phrase and fact of life, (FALL MAINTENANCE!). We are fortunate to have many Business Partner members that perform remediation services, should you be in the market for one . . . or any Business Partners for that matter. Please visit our Service Provider directory on WSCAI’s website. Easy access to community association specific vendors is worth the price of membership alone!

Our industry of community association management is one of constant learning, with the ever-changing rules, laws, technological advances, and changing times, we at WSCAI are proud to be the foundation and support for all you community association managers, committee members, boards, owners and businesses alike. For educational opportunities and for upcoming meetings and events, please check out the Upcoming Events on our website.
