President’s Message Sarah Anderson, PCAM®, Chapter President Greetings!

I feel a bit sad as I sit here writing my final President’s Message. It was a great honor and privilege to serve as your President. Thank you for the faith and support you have bestowed upon me.

There is no “I” in team and it goes without saying that the heart of our organization is our volunteer network. It is easy to attend an event

without realizing how much effort the Committees and Staff put in to ensure you have a valuable educational or networking experience.

It was great to meet some new and prospective Business Partner members at the recent event held at Matthews Winery in Woodinville. As many of you are aware, the Business Partners Committee organizes Business Partner Socials on a routine basis. To clarify, Managers and Business Partners alike are encouraged to attend these functions. The feedback I received is consistent with what I believe sets WSCAI apart from other professional organizations. We are a dynamic, intelligent, passionate, welcoming, team oriented, fun group of people who work together to support the success of the communities. On top of that we have an excellent and dedicated Staff who organizes and facilitates the required initiatives and tasks.

In my opinion, the most memorable event of the year was the Golf Tournament. Those not in attendance may recall the July day in which the weather decided to remind us of the harsh winter ahead. Between the never-ending downpour, wind, gray skies, thunderstorms and flooding , the golfers and sponsors braved the conditions until the mandated closure of the course. Participants then convened at the clubhouse, attempted to restore any semblance of the costumes and made the most of the unpredictable conditions. I sincerely appreciate everyone’s laughter, patience and flexibility in light of the circumstances. This will definitely go down as the coldest and wettest Golf Tournament in the WSCAI history books.

As my term comes to a close, I have reflected on how well we executed the Chapter’s Strategic Plan. The plan is broken down into the following categories:

1. Education: To increase the number of relevant, accessible educational programs that provide significant value to our members and community associations.

2. Membership: Increase Chapter membership.

3. Public Policy: To support and influence public policy for the benefit of community associations.

4. Communications: To encourage and support communication.

5. Leadership: To implement a structure for effective, knowledgeable and accountable leaders.

The Strategic Plan is at the forefront of the annual efforts of our Board and Committees. We certainly have not been stagnant. Each year we utilize the feedback and lessons learned to improve, promote and enhance the Chapter events and membership. A strong emphasis is placed on maintaining the value and relevance of the education offered. Our collective vision for the year was to enhance value for all members. I strongly believe we have achieved this goal with the commendable and collaborative efforts of the Membership, Committees, Staff and Board of Directors.

In closing, I wanted to take an opportunity to remind you of the WSCAI Scholarship Program and Award Nominations. The Board of Directors debuted the Scholarship Program last year to support communities and industry professionals who have difficulty accessing educational opportunities due to financial limitations. If you are interested or know of a community or individual that may benefit from this, we encourage you to apply. You may obtain an application by visiting the WSCAI website or by requesting a copy from the Chapter office.

In September, you received a call for nominations for the Annual Chapter Awards. It is my hope that you submitted names and information for members you know who have demonstrated excellence in one of the following categories:

       
