Spotlight Recognizing

Shortly after the last issue of Plexus arrived in members’ mailboxes, one the founding members contacted association staff to share his opinions. This member noted the quality of the magazine and how he always looks forward to reading it, but that one aspect of it had been troubling him.
This member noted that the WSCA is very good at introducing all the new and returning members—a very useful feature, to be sure—but it hardly ever recognizes those members who have been around since our inception. These longtime members form the backbone of the association; their loyalty and reliability having seen us through the best and worst of times. Without publicly recognizing those DCs, how could they not feel taken for granted?
The WSCA Board and staff couldn’t agree more with this sentiment, and it’s high time we do something about it. For the record, no one in the association leadership takes any member for granted. This is a voluntary association and we pride ourselves on providing the kinds of benefits that not only make DCs want to join, but also stay on with us throughout their careers and beyond. But we also realize that managing the business of the association may have distracted us from giving credit where it is due.
In order to remedy this, the WSCA is doing two things.
First, we’d like to thank each and every one of our members for their support.
New and old, and everyone in between—but especially those who have stood with us these past 26 years, steadfastly through thick and thin.
Second, in recognition of those without whom this association would not exist, a new feature will be included in Plexus beginning with our first issue in 2018.
This new feature will list every DC member who has belonged to the WSCA for 15 or more years without a break in membership. Additionally, we will profile one of those longstanding members in each issue moving forward.
Your association is grateful for your participation, and the last thing anyone wants is for our greatest resources of talent and experience to feel unappreciated. So be on the lookout for this new feature beginning in February, and remember that the WSCA is here to serve you. If you ever have a concern or a suggestion, you need only share it.
