President’s Message

Dave Potter, CMCA, AMS Golden Rain Foundation – Seal Beach Chapter President

As you are reading this message, the weather is fi nally starting to turn to spring (or for the community managers, project management season). As I write this, the 2025 CAI OC Awards Gala has only just concluded. The Gala remains one of my favorite events of the year, as it celebrates hard work by our volunteers both for the Chapter and those that work in the industry as a whole. It’s such an amazing experience to come together and see all the emerging and established leaders together in one room. It’s truly an energizing evening timed for when the year is really starting to kick into gear.

If you’re looking for a way to get involved with the Chapter before the next gala, you should consider joining one of our Chapter committees. Volunteering with the Chapter is a wonderful way to give back to the industry, and our committees are always looking for new volunteers. Please feel free to contact our Executive Director or a committee co-chair if you have an interest in joining one.

The April luncheon will be an economic update provided by Chapman University, which is always a well-attended and informative event. If you haven’t had the opportunity to attend in the past, this will lay out a map for the economy in 2025 and the impact on housing prices and sales, as well as prices in general. Do you want to know if a big project might cost more at the end of the year than right now? Then, this is a must-attend event!

You can also get involved with advocating for and against legislation with the California Legislative Action Committee’s

Advocacy Week in Sacramento in mid-April. Sacramento is always considering changes to the laws that regulate our industry, and some of these changes are better than others. This annual event is our chance to meet with key stakeholders at the capital and let them know how we feel, and why, to hopefully sway them to our point of view.

Our Chapter pickleball tournament—a newer event and a well- attended one—comes back on May 1st

. It would not surprise me

if this social event was packed again, so if you have an interest, please get your tickets early to make sure you can be a part of the fun.

And our homeowner education series, HOA U, has four sessions in May on four different topics. If being on the board of a homeowners association was easy, everyone would do it! These classes will give you the information that will make your neighbors think you’re a pro.

These aren’t even all the events that the Chapter and CAI National have going on for the spring, so be sure to explore the Chapter calendar on our website and fi nd all the opportunities that are available to help shape your knowledge, your leadership, or just to have some fun.
