ON THE COVER This June the fl owering dogwood tree celebrates its 71st birthday as the Missouri state tree. Also the state tree of Virginia and North Carolina, the Missouri legislature named it as the state tree on June 20, 1955. There is no better place to celebrate than Missouri’s Ozark woodlands from mid-April to early May when the dogwood is in bloom.
