WINNING ENTRY { ANIMALS } CATFISH FOR LUNCH by Dr. Jack Backs, Hermann


THE “ANIMALS” CATEGORY HAD 11 ENTRIES. In this category, images display insects, birds, fish, mammals ... any wild or domesticated member of the great animal kingdom. “This photo was taken May 2019 at Busch Wildlife Conservation Area in St. Charles County,” said Dr. Backs, a general practitioner in Hermann. “Capturing this photo took quite a bit of patience—several sessions of over an hour to


catch the parent eagle coming in to drop off a fish for the fledglings.” Dr. Backs, who has had winning images several times in the MDA photo contest, used a Nikon D500 camera with a 500mm f4 telephoto lens and 1.4x teleconverter for added magnification to capture this image.
