Nearly two decades later, it’s still moving forward. Advocacy takes time.
Meanwhile, every session, the MDA monitors and engages with dozens of bills — appro- priations, compacts, Medicaid improvements and more. Much like the ADA, we don’t seek credit for every win, but we are constantly at the table, ensuring the profession’s voice is heard.
WHY BELONG AT ALL THREE LEVELS? When you feel like opting out.
At times, I understand the temptation to question why we need to belong to local, state and national associations. But each plays a distinct role.
• MDA protects your profession in Missouri through advocacy on countless issues.
• ADA provides national advocacy and supports states with resources and grants. Think back to the pandemic, when ADA and state associations worked together to keep practices open. • Local societies offer CE, networking and direct connection to peers.
All three levels matter. If we want to move the profession forward, we must stay united and nurture trust. Or, as Paul so eloquently states in his article on page 28, “relationships remain our fuel.”
MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER The best way out is always through.
Dr. Farran has contributed much to den- tistry, but focusing only on the negatives of organized dentistry makes it harder for us to rise together. Both members and non-mem- bers benefit from advocacy and resources, but continued success requires sustained membership and resources.
No one cares more — or fights harder — for Missouri dentists than the MDA. But we can’t do it without you. As the saying goes: united we stand, divided we fall.
