Paper Or Electronic... Every Vote Counts

By: Stephen R. Gothard, PR Hoffman Inc., Page-Per-Page

V

oting for our elected officials is as American as baseball, apple pie, and ice cream. Even though that wasn’t always the case, our country has a long history of correcting the past and ensuring that every citizen has the right to vote in 2016. In fact, four separate amendments to The Constitution (the 15th, 19th, 24th, and 26th) use language that specifically states, “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged.”

The power of a single vote is the echoing call of a single citizen to have his or her voice heard. If there was ever a time that this was more prevalent, we only have to look at the presidential election of our 43rd president. George W. Bush won the state of Florida by a mere 537 votes over Al Gore. In a state of literally millions, 537 is, by every measure, a razor thin margin. It also serves as an excellent example of why ev- ery vote counts. Every citizen has one vote. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, we’re all equal. Period.

This brief history lesson serves as a reminder of the importance and power of a vote. When we turn inward, and move down to the local level, the rules stay the same.
