Arrigo, Stevens join Chuhak & Tecson as principals in Condominium group

NEW EMPLOYEES

Chuhak & Tecson, P.C., is pleased to announce the addition of two attorneys whose solid experience in condominium law bolsters the already considerable bench strength of the Condominium and Common Interest Community Association practice group.

Both James “Jim” Arrigo and James “Jamie” Stevens have transitioned from the Bolingbrook office of Tressler LLP, and they join Chuhak & Tecson as principals.

Steven Bloomberg, leader of Chuhak & Tecson’s condominium group, hired Arrigo more than a decade ago when he was running Moss & Bloomberg, which later merged with Tressler. He is delighted to have Arrigo back on his team again.

“I’m excited about furthering my professional relationship with Jamie Stevens and I am also very pleased to know that Jim Arrigo is going to be part of this group,” Bloomberg said. “Both attorneys have an excellent track record of experience; I believe their talents, along with the skills of the staff they’ve brought with them, will reinforce ours quite well.

“Our clients are the ones who will benefit most,” Bloomberg noted. “Combining the strengths of their practices with ours will be a good thing for our attorneys and paralegals, but especially for all the clients who are going to be served.”

Both new attorneys represent condominium and homeowner associations inside the courtroom and out. Drawing from a deep familiarity with the Illinois Condominium Property Act, the Common Interest Community Association Act and related legislation, they address the full spectrum of association legalities, including bylaws and declarations, easements, developer turnover, enforcement of rules, interpretation of governing documents, all manner of litigation, and other issues.

Stevens also represents individual and business clients in commercial litigation and real estate, and he defends creditors in bankruptcy. Arrigo, on the other hand, is focused solely on condominium law at this time, but he formerly had a successful business in medical malpractice and products liability defense and also practiced in municipal law.

Before that, Arrigo was a journalist. He wrote for magazines and broadcast journalism, then worked as a commercial photographer, but friends often told him he thought like a lawyer. Intrigued, he took the LSAT (law school admission test) exam and discovered they were onto something.

Arrigo graduated from DePaul University College of Law with honors.

Like Bloomberg, he sees nothing but good coming out of joining his practice with Chuhak & Tecson.

“I think it brings Jamie and myself together with one of the foremost and longest serving names in association law,” Arrigo said. “Steve Bloomberg and his son, David, who has a tremendous background in litigation, will be a great resource for the clients we’re bringing to Chuhak with us.

“This move gives us synergies in terms of clients, legal experience and resources. It will give us a good footprint in the city, yet still allow us to service our suburban clients in the way they’re used to being serviced. We’ll be combining our client bases, adding attorneys with boots-on-the-ground experience in dealing with clients, and also adding that to the ongoing legal experience that Steve and David Bloomberg bring to this practice at Chuhak & Tecson.”

Stevens, with a political science degree from the University of Chicago, wasn’t sure at first what he wanted to do with it. But his knack for competitive debate, problem solving and analytical thinking led him to believe law school would be a good next step.

His juris doctorate is from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.

“Joining Chuhak & Tecson is an exciting opportunity, and it makes a lot of sense for us in giving our clients great service,” Stevens said. “Chuhak has such a breadth of different services that our clients will find useful.

“We also will be helping the firm expand their presence into the southwest market, since this is an area that Jim and I already know. I’m thankful for this opportunity to continue building my practice in such a rewarding new environment.”
