Smiles are contagious! In fact, that was his license plate on his personal vehicle for over a half century — “FUN.” For the past few years with his health declining, he could no longer drive or walk any distance and be present with his concessions at the Fairs. Little Richard’s son, Robert (who was named in honor of Robert Kratzer), worked with his father in the concessions throughout his adult life and was a friend to many within the industry. Robert took over the management of the concessions several years ago. In April, 2022, Robert was diagnosed with colon cancer, had the surgery and endured the radiation and chemotherapy treatments he received to regain his health. He remained optimis- tic, looking forward to returning to work. On September 11, 2022, Little Richard and family members enjoyed a family gathering and dinner to celebrate his 90th birthday. Four days later, on September 15, 2022, Robert Kratzer Thomas passed from this earth to his heavenly home at a young 56 years of age, leaving his wife of 31 years, four sons and a daughter. His death has left everyone in shock and grief-stricken. After much discussion and deliberation during this


sorrowful time, the decision was made to retire the business and sell the conces- sions and equipment.


Little Richard is now 90 years old and physically unable to travel and visit his friends and associates from his many years of lie “on the road” within the Fair circuit. He spends his days at home, read- ing his mail and watching television. He keeps in touch with most by telephone and still enjoys smoking his cigar (only one per day now) as he has for over fifty years. Richard’s motto through the years: “Remember your friends going up the ladder, you may need them coming down.” That phrase certainly relates to the world we’re living in today and are experiencing.
