First Day Jitters and the Art of Managing Wednesdays
Jackie Cleveland Change is hard.
I know, obvious adult statements are seemingly unnecessary at the beginning of a feature story in a professional industry magazine. But I can still say I am TERRIBLE at change. Nothing manifests this more than the first day in a new position. New people, systems, clients, culture, commute. Seriously, you would think that after years in school and years in this career we would all be champions at accepting the new and different. I dare say there is no such thing as their brain.
Lucky for me, this article is coming out of my bucket of jumbled thoughts and into yours fresh off my very own transition. A gal has got to draw from life to make any story authentic, right? As I write this, a few weeks before you are reading this, I sit at home, on my, no, forcing myself to really think about where I have been and where I we propel ourselves forward, I still cannot help but be nervous about
Do I really know what I am doing? Will people like me?
What if I make huge mistakes, or worse, a series of really small dumb ones?
The familiarity with these emotions is almost welcome. We can take the opportunity after conquering anything new to remind our

Who remembers walking into homeroom on the first day of middle school seriously worried about connecting with kids from other schools? I know I do. Pre-braces, glasses and with a desire to befriend books more than other kids, that was me. Who would be by my side going through this most awkward three year phase alone? Who is going to help me walk from room to room, and help me in my like I knew nothing, and less than when it came to the idea of new
contracting or counsel all your life or are fresh to the game, there will Or better, you will not lack someone way out in front to learn from. What a rich community we are, we who can serve our community associations. Even better than when we fumbled our way through awkward life phases, there is so much help out here. Answers to any question you could possibly have are just a phone call away. and audits. Have an enforcement issue? There is a bevy of lawyers and mediators out there who can find you the solution you are looking for outside of the black and white basics of your rules and regulations. Insurance brokers LOVE to talk the ups and downs of coverage and while during busy times our contractors may be up to their elbows in summer-projects, you WILL have help in coming up with the best of now and forever repairs.
