Contributing Writers Kris Eggert

is the Senior Construction Manager at J2 Building Consultants, Inc. (J2) and has worked in the construction industry for over 15 years, with a focus on multi-family, occupied remediation projects. His professional experience encompasses all facets of

the industry from hands-on trade work, estimating, design and scope development, and project management. Kris has worked closely with HOA Boards, property managers, facility managers, attorneys, and contractors in the successful completion of hundreds of restoration projects. He teams up with Jens Johanson to discuss the importance of performing a property inspection prior to commencing with large painting projects.

Martin Flores

brings us the article “Roof Maintenance and Longevity.” He is a Principal with Dimensional Building Consultants in Bellevue, WA. As a university graduate in civil engineering, Martin has over 20 years experience in the analysis of building elements

that comprise the building envelope. He is also a Roof Consultations Institute (RCI) Registered Roof Observer and International Code Council (ICC) Residential Building Inspector. Throughout his career he has examined properties located from New York to Hawaii, Texas to Alaska, and in Mexico and Canada.

Linda Fox

contributes “Flower Power: Play Up Your Landscaping with a Splash of Annual Color.” She is a principal at Signature Landscape Services and has been in the landscape design and maintenance industry for 20 years.

Jens Johanson

is Principal at J2 Building Consultants, Inc. (J2). Jens has over 25 years of experience in the construction industry with a focus on the building envelope for over 15 years. His experience includes hands-on trade work, estimating,

project

management, building envelope design, construction management, construction defect analysis, real estate services, and expert witness testimony. He founded J2 an engineering, architectural, and construction firm specializing in building envelope design, testing, performance assessment and design build restoration. As president and technical director, he establishes and leads the overall technical and management functions of the firm. Together with J2’s Kris Eggert, he discusses pre-painting inspections in this issue.

Don Leland, GM

John Rickauer, PE

discusses deck safety in this issue. He is a civil engineer who provides engineering analysis to determine the cause and origin of structural, geotechnical and building materials failures. He assesses damage in residential and commercial foundations and

superstructures resulting from soil movement, snow load, water intrusion, inadequate design, wind, and other causes. He prepares documentation with repair recommendations and design drawings including the modification of surface and subsurface drainage. John uses his extensive experience with timber (including trusses), steel and concrete systems for residential and light commercial buildings to support community associations and the construction defect industry.

executive with years of facilities,

construction and management experience behind him. He is dedicated to building and implementing

crisp business strategies. A proud member of the Puyallup Indian tribe, he built SMS a facilities, insurance, real estate, and management business and for over a decade has owned and operated one of the busiest firms in Washington State with national coverage and offices across the United States. His extensive knowledge of and experience in all areas of facilities maintenance provides invaluable professional insight for his clients.
