President’s Message Sarah Anderson, PCAM®, Chapter President

Happy March! I am shocked and amazed that we have had such a mild (albeit rainy) winter. The daffodil bulbs sprouting leaves in the front yard gives a lot of hope that we will be equally as blessed with a beautiful spring.
As we depart from the post-budget season hibernation mode, we must start discussions and implement plans to accomplish weather-dependent projects. The sunshine months provide associations with an opportunity to complete comprehensive site evaluations to identify new maintenance needs and ensure they are accomplished in the short dry-weather season. Factors such as funding, contractor selection, scheduling, bid specifications and contract negotiations must be anticipated within the association’s project schedule in order to ensure the work can actually take place within the spring and summer months.
Similar to the communities we serve and manage; WSCAI’s committees have kicked off the year with significant planning efforts to implement your favorite events in 2014. We greet spring with Tacoma Law Day on March 29th and Lynnwood Law Day on April 26th. I’ve had the pleasure of serving on the Law Day Committee over the course of the last year and must say the team puts a lot of effort into reviewing the feedback received and selecting relevant topics for the upcoming events.
In addition to the Law Day events, our first 2014 Chapter Luncheon will take place on March 25th. The Membership Committee has kicked off an exciting new Recruiter Campaign in 2014. For every three new members you recruit in a quarter, your name will be entered in a drawing for $100 cash! In addition, every time you qualify for a quarterly drawing, your name will automatically be entered into the Grand Prize Drawing for $1,200. The winner of the Grand Prize Recruiter Drawing will be selected at the November 18th Chapter Luncheon. If there is any way we can assist in your efforts to connect non-members with WSCAI, please don’t hesitate to contact the Chapter office.
At a recent Saturday seminar I attended, I had an opportunity to talk to a homeowner about their experience as a member of WSCAI thus far. The individual’s eyes lit up as they expressed how the information obtained from just one article or one class can save associations from wasting time, money and resources, which are far more costly than an annual membership fee. It was an incredibly inspiring discussion and one I hope you can reflect upon as you consider becoming a new member, submitting your annual renewal or when talking to non-members about the benefits of joining WSCAI.
Thank you for everything you do to support WSCAI. I look forward to seeing you at a future event.
