Leadership Academy
Would you like to engage more effectively with governance and colleagues within and outside of APT?
Leadership development is a critical on-going priority in every organization committed to the long-term advancement of the trade or profession of its members. By completing the APT Leadership
Academy program, you will develop and contribute the elevated leadership perspectives necessary to ensure the long-term growth and advancement of both play therapy and APT. You will learn how APT is
structured, operated, and financed. You will also explore the Policy Governance© Model - a governance system that has redefined the roles and responsibilities of governance (board), management (CEO), and stakeholders (members) to better align expertise with assigned duties. It then allows the policy board to focus upward and outward, thereby generating more long-term value for members.
The Academy is comprised of five
two-part assignments, facilitated by CEO Kathy Lebby, the academy explores leadership attributes, APT and its policies and programs, the Policy Governance© Model, and, because APT is a virtual organization, how it conducts its daily business online. All members of the APT and
Foundation for Play Therapy boards of directors, most APT committee chairs and members, and many Branch presidents are Leadership Academy graduates. For additional information or to enroll, visit the APT website! The path to APT leadership positions
starts with our online Leadership Academy. Submit your 2017 Class enrollment
application by December 15.
After completing the Leadership Academy, I have a greater
understanding of what goes on behind the scenes of APT. The commitment demonstrated by our Board and Leadership truly make APT one of the best associations to be a member of!

I have a new found appreciation for APT and all involved in making APT something I’m proud to be a member of. Also I learned how the balance between clinical and business management input are vital to keep APT functioning as well as it does!
— Rachel Stewart, LMHC, RPT-S Fort Myers, FL
I’ve gained so much insight into this organization through these exercises. I have come to appreciate the intentionality behind all that is done for APT on every level!
