Infant mental health can be viewed as an overarching umbrella of which varied infant interventions and models can fall that can include infant-oriented and relationally based play therapy type interventions. There are three potential avenues for how play therapists can begin to integrate infant play-based practices into treatment planning and      and receive training in the existing infant mental health play-based  


As infant play therapy models are created and theories adapted,


they must look to the already established research and literature  overall effectiveness through qualitative and quantitative research. It also must be noted that working with the infant populations requires specialized knowledge and training. One of the most hopeful prospects of play therapy work with infants is the focus          of life sets in motion one of the most essential foundations of all—our ability to trust within relationships. As play therapists we can help to facilitate attuned parent-infant playful “serve and return” interactions as Jack Shonkoff, Director of the Center on the  perhaps we can all begin work with the wee ones starting in the        child’s future as they grow.
