doption is a lifelong process that impacts multiple individuals within the family unit (Porch, 2007; Vandivere, Malm, & McKlindon, 2011). Currently, approximately 2% of the United States population is comprised of adopted individuals, many of whom are children (Bureau of Consular Affairs, 2016). Moreover, the rate of adoptions in the United States has risen during recent years, with an estimated 267,098 adoptions completed in 2016 (Bureau of Consular Affairs, 2016).
