President’s Message

Robert M. DeNichilo, Esq., CCAL Richardson | Ober | DeNichilo Chapter President

What is your “why”? We all have one. The reason that we do what we do. It is what drives you. It is the reason you keep going when things are hard and you want to give up. It is what motivates you. I am not talking about money or salary. As Simon Sinek states, your “why” is not about money. That is a result of why you do what you do. Your “why” is why you make a unique contribution and impact. Having a clear idea of your why helps drive you and guides your decisions in life.

It can be difficult to get to the heart of your “why.” This year the Chapter’s Board of Directors began the year by sharing each of our individual “whys” as to why we serve on the Board. What is it that motivated us to run for the Board, and why do we dedicate our time as chapter volunteers to help lead the chapter? Those “whys” will be shared with our members at Chapter events, and on our social media channels. But I have a request of you. I want to include you, our members, in the discussion. We will be asking you at times to share your “why.” Why do you do what you do? What motivates you and keeps you from giving up in the hardest moments? What drives you? What makes you succeed when others might fail?

When you think about and share your “my why,” think not only about your individual why, but also why you are here. Why are you part of CAI? What motivates you to come back, to stay, to engage, to recruit others to join you here? I’m hoping you will share your stories of what attracted you to CAI and what keeps you coming back. Are you a member because you want quality

education? Are you here to share important information about your company? Are you a homeowner leader looking to learn and better serve your community Association? Are you here because you have made genuine friends and enjoy each other’s company? Are you engaging with other members and serving on a chapter committee, perhaps giving back to an industry or chapter that has given you a career and memories, or are you here simply to be seen? If so, why so?

Whatever your “why” is, please share it with us on social media, tag the Chapter and use the hashtag #CAIOCMyWhy so that we can share our experiences together. I also hope that if you see someone share their “why” in a way that connects with you that you reach out to that person and let them know their “why” resonated with you. You never know the power of a kind word or a connection and what a difference that may make in someone’s day.

I look forward to hearing your “why” and sharing the best of those stories with our members in upcoming events.
