They also considered creating a Board of Trustees with representation based on merit, interest and intent to actively participate— not based on geographical boundaries. One other topic they introduced was implement- ing an aggressive DSO membership strategy.

The third sub-group was Membership, Communications, Programming and Con- nections. One recommendation from this group was substantial social media presence. Another was evaluating MOMOM. How do we explore alternate models and any way in which the benefits to the underserved patient population can be maximized? The full committee agreed no other event brings colleagues together and promotes unity like a MOMOM. Another topic discussed is expanding the current EFDA program. They felt this could be the greatest opportunity in terms of a member benefit and engagement, and overall MDA growth.

The committee concluded that change is disruptive and often painful, and can be expensive and risky as well—but often, it still must be undertaken for the good. At the last MDA Board meeting in April, I appointed five Board members (and two other non-Board members were added) to keep this task force moving forward. As some of the changes can be implemented faster than others, it is the goal of the Board to keep this work progress- ing and moving forward in a positive fashion. This group was tasked with reporting their recommendations to the Board in August.

As we move forward, at any time please reach out to me or anyone on the MDA staff if you have any questions or suggestions for our Association. I really feel like the more we can work together and have strong communi- cation, the stronger our MDA will be. Our goal is to help ensure all members succeed. Thank you for allowing me to be your MDA president.
