MDA celebrates 150 Years in 2015
Beginning this year, each issue of the Focus will spotlight a team member from the MDA or MDIS, or an MDA Board of Trustees member. The goal is to help you, the members, get to know the personal side of the featured person a bit better.
This issue we start with Katie Reichard, the Association’s newest team member, who is the MDA Legislative and Regu- latory Director.

Pictured on a travel adventure to Lima, Peru.
You’ll get to read a little about Katie on page 14 of this issue; that she’s a Jefferson City native and likes to travel. She’s also the third of four children and tried her luck in Nashville as a singer before her vocal chords gave in and she headed back to the Show-Me State to commence her legislative career. Katie is a pet lover, and is the owner of two adopted dogs, Ruby (a Beagle/Border Collie mix) and Daisy (an Australian Shepherd). Connected to this love, she serves as a Board Member and Events/ Fundraising Chair of Jefferson City Safe Harbor, a non-profit organization that provides foster homes to displaced pets of domestic violence victims.
Here’s a bit more to get to know Katie better! Contact her at
katie@modentalmail.org. Better yet, come meet her in person by signing up for MDA Legislative Day, February 25.
Last good book you read: Gone Girl How you like to spend your Sunday: COFFEE, The Crossing Church and weather permitting, biking or hik- ing with my dogs.
Music currently on your playlist: Beastie Boys, Pokey LaFarge, the 90s station—always and forever.
Favorite wellness activity: Yoga (both Hatha and hot), love trying new/healthy recipes, biking and swimming.
Food you refuse to eat: Gravy! (Blech!) And no, not even on mashed potatoes!
Most awesome place you’ve visited outside of Missouri: Machu Picchu (Peru) at sunrise. In all my travels, it is truly the most breathtaking place I have ever been.
f you attended the MDA House of Delegates in November, then you heard
incoming MDA president, Dr. Joe Sokolowski, talk about 2015 being the Association’s 150th anniversary. Our goal is to celebrate all year long, not just on our official date of cre- ation, October 31. Therefore, we’ll be telling you about special events you can attend or ways you can say “Cheers for 150 Years!” Below are some of the ways we’ll be celebrat- ing … make sure you take note and participate if you can!
We’ve unveiled a special logo to mark the occasion that you’ll be seeing on all sorts of MDA communications to keep this special
milestone top of mind! It’s even on your membership decal that will be arriving with your membership card this year, so don’t forget to proudly display it in your practice!
Each issue of the Focus will feature a “Backwards Glance” of our Association history. It may be an excerpt from a magazine issue
or a significant photo or a milestone event remembered. See page 10 in this issue!
If you’re on Facebook, follow the MDA, as each Thursday we’ll feature a #TBT (Throwback Thursday) post of a picture from the
past. The MDA Facebook page is a great place to get important information and updates, so if you aren’t following us, get started!

Cupcakes and Coffee? It just has a ring to it! This is what we’ll be enjoying at the MDA Legislative Day, February 25 in Jefferson
City. To give this long-standing event an “anniversary” flair, we’ll also be receiving a proclamation noting our 150 years as an Associa- tion and of working with Missouri legislators. Don’t miss it! Make plans to join us this year for this important event. Contact Katie Reichard at the MDA to RSVP (
katie@modentalmail.org).
Say “Cheers for 150 Years” by sending us your selfie! Selfies are a light-hearted, fun way for us to see and celebrate YOU, the
members, who ARE the MDA! Members always have been the heart of our successful association, so we’re on a photo drive to see how many member mugs we can collect for a special collage at the 2015 House of Delegates (where we’re planning a special anniversary- themed awards banquet). See page 24 in this issue!
There’s more to come, so stay tuned and thanks for being a part of the MDA’s 150 year history!
