Downey Brand Partner Art Woodward Joins Auburn Law Firm

Arthur G. Woodward recently joined

the Auburn law firm of Reynolds Maddux LLP as a partner. The firm has changed its name to Reynolds Maddux Woodward, LLP.

In Memoriam: James Polk, Smith, Curry & Hancock, LLP

AGC of California and many others throughout the

state’s construction industry were deeply saddened at the sudden passing of a longtime and active member, James (Jim) Polk, on May 2, 2015. A frequent speaker at AGC’s Annual Legal Retreat

and the current Vice-Chair of the Associates Council, as well as member of the Legal Advisory Committee, Polk had previously been general counsel for AGC of Cali- fornia for 11 years. In that capacity, he was responsible for all legal affairs of the California chapter, the nation’s

largest AGC chapter. Most recently, Polk was of counsel in the San Francisco office of Smith, Currie &

Hancock LLP, San Francisco. His experience in the legal affairs of the construction industry included the areas

of licensing, public works, labor and employment, legislation, regulatory matters, real estate, corporate formation and dispute resolution. After serving as General Counsel for the AGC of California earlier in his career,

Polk then worked as special counsel at Silicon Valley’s largest law firm, Wilson, Son- sini, Goodrich & Rosati, focusing on corporate and securities law. He went on to work in the mortgage business and had his own law practice handling real estate matters before joining Smith, Currie & Hancock more than a year ago. A graduate of Stanford University with a J.D. from UC Hastings College of Law,

Polk was active in a number of professional groups in addition to AGC, including the American Arbitration Association and the American Bar Association among others. As of press time, funeral arrangements were not known. A memorial fund has been established at the American Diabetes Association in Jim Polk’s name.

Clark/McCarthy Tops Out New Stanford Hospital

Clark/McCarthy, a joint venture of

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. and Clark Construction Group as general contractor, recently topped out the $2 billion new Stanford Hospital, marking a significant milestone in the steel erection phase for the future 824,000-sq-ft world- class medical center. Stanford Health Care officials, staff,
