From the Executive Director A great 2017 and looking forward to 2019
n behalf of the American Trails staff, board, partners and Symposium attendees, I would like to thank our friends in Dayton, Ohio for hosting an amazing International Trails Symposium. What a great time we had in Dayton! If you missed the Symposium, I am truly sorry. And, if you were lucky enough to attend, we hope you will agree that it was an inspiring and educational week.
O
The 2017 Symposium brought together over 568 members of the trails community— from 45 states
and 13 countries— for an exceptional gathering. The Symposium featured 109 sponsors, 93 exhibitors, and 122 educational sessions from 197 presenters. The International Trails Symposium also injected over $668,000 into the economic vitality of Dayton. Dayton was an excellent location for the Symposium. Five
Rivers MetroParks, the City of Dayton, and all of the amazing local partners were an energetic, skilled, and knowledgeable cadre of leaders. Your support helped make this huge undertak- ing a rousing success. As you know, the Symposium is a world-renowned opportu- nity for the trails community to come together to network, learn, exchange ideas, and combine our voices to strengthen trails for everyone. Reports we have received confirm that the 2017 Symposium was highly successful on each of these fronts. There is no doubt that communities across the globe will benefit for years to come from the exchange of ideas shared in Dayton. Our next International Trails Symposium will be held in
Syracuse, NY from April 28 through May 1, 2019. I hope you will plan to join us in this great city. Keep an eye out for updates on our theme and the plans for great sessions, workshops, and a revitalized expo and trade show. We hope to see you there!
