Although we may not know who said this quote, we understand how he or she felt about the men and women who serve our country. In answering the call to serve in the Armed Forces, these individuals leave behind family and friends — their lives — to protect and defend freedom. Many have given the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom. Others live daily with reminders of their sacrifices, many permanently disabled from severe injuries received during combat.
Many noble organizations and foundations have been established to support those wounded in action. For the Missouri Bankers Association, one particular organization holds a special honor of distinction — Segs4Vets.
Segs4Vets, the designated charity of MBA, is a nonprofit volunteer organization that seeks to improve the quality of life for permanently disabled veterans and first responders through the application of new technologies. Specifically, these technologies are mobile devices — Segway transporters and ALLY chairs — that Segs4Vets gifts to disabled veterans and first responders. The Segways and ALLY chairs create a sense of purpose and independence that empowers permanently disabled veterans and first responders to live independently.
MBA held its first Segs4Vets fundraising campaign in 2009 and donated more than $23,000. Since then, MBA, banks in Missouri, their employees and communities, and MBA associate members have donated more than $874,000 to support Segs4Vets.
The donated funds from MBA’s Segs4Vets campaign have purchased Segways and ALLY chairs for men and women who sustained severe injuries or illnesses that resulted in permanent disability while serving our country. The donations also support maintenance services for Segways and ALLY chairs.
With the 2022 Segs4Vets fundraising campaign underway, MBA encourages its members to support this year’s efforts. Your generosity will help MBA achieve its goal — to surpass more than $1 million in in cumulative donations since 2009. What an incredible gift to support Segs4Vets and our veterans!
