JANUARY 2024
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FROM THE H
appy New Year! When this issue arrives in your mailbox, I’ll be starting my fourth year as your Executive Director. It seems
like yesterday (January 11, 2021, to be exact!) that I officially began working to support the members of NPM and our shared ministry within the Church. Often, I hear parents say that the individual days of raising children are long but the years are fast—they happen in the blink of an eye. Tat analogy is true for my first three years at NPM!
As we enter this new year, what excites you about the possibilities of 2024? I’m excited that in January and February, NPM will offer a sight-reading basics course, with tracks in both English and Spanish. Tis program responds to the needs of many volunteer musicians within the Church today, and isn’t that why we are all called to our vocation as pastoral musicians, to serve one another and the Church?
We start 2024 off with our annual Colloquium and the four-week sight-reading course. By mid-February, registration for the 47th National Convention will open, and the preview is included in this issue! Centrally located in the heart of the country, Kansas City, Missouri, provides a great location, to which NPM will finally bring a National Convention!
Our convention theme, “Fountains of Faith,” ties into the call of responding to the pastoral needs around us. Faith is something which can ebb and flow in our lives. I have often reflected that faith persists despite the doubts and despite (ir)rational thoughts. It’s my faith that calls me to respond even when things in life seem impossible. Sometimes, the “fountain” of our faith is glorious and sparkling, overflowing with vitality; other times, it is a trickle of water, just enough to sustain us. We know that Christ gives us exactly what we need at

any given moment, even when we doubt his judgment. But my faith wins, and the Living Water breathes life into me.
Te new calendar year usually brings resolutions, maybe a commitment to do more, to do less, to do better, or to simply be. In November, I wrote about the gift of being present to one another. So perhaps our commitment in the new year can be to become more mindful of how our faith manifests inside of us and then how we share it with one another. Whose fountain will overflow to sustain you during the challenging times, and for whom will you do the same in return?
When I began serving you, I was strengthened by the community of faith around me, noticing how you supported one another and the communities you serve. In 2024, may we continue to serve one another, our Church, and our Lord, Jesus Christ. Blessings to each of you this year.
