Why is it important for students to participate in NCLC?

EVAN WOLTERS

Major: Landscape management Classification: Junior School: BYU – Provo

JOHNATHAN HAMPTON

Major: Horticulture with a focus in pre-land- scape architecture Classification: Junior School: Auburn University

“NCLC is the gateway to a host of connections within numerous industries related to agriculture. It is an excellent way to meet with potential colleagues and employers, which I think is an invaluable benefit of the event. Even if students are unsure about what they want to pursue, they can schedule meetings with companies they may be interested in, which not only helps establish connections but also sharpens their interviewing skills. Even if they aren’t looking for career opportunities, participating in competitions can help deepen their knowledge/appreciation for a field. Preparing for last year’s Annual and Perennial ID competition left me with a greater love for plant identification and a deeper awareness of my surroundings.”

“I think that it is just such a wonderful opportunity to network with potential future employers and other students. There are so many awesome companies that put in a lot of time and effort into running this event and they are eager to interact with students.”

COURTNEY ARNOLD

Major: Horticulture, counseling and business Classification: Junior School: Auburn University

“NCLC does all of the legwork, bringing professionals and students together. Some of the top in the league are available to reach out to. It’s a missed opportunity for any student to miss this event!”

AIKO YAMADA

Major: Botany Classification: Junior School: Cal Poly Pomona

“At Cal Poly Pomona, the plant science department always encourages students to be involved and participating in NCLC is a fun extracurricular activity that is still relevant to agriculture. Sometimes when you go to a university with such a diverse range of different majors and colleges, it’s hard to find people to connect with that share the same passions as you. NCLC gives students an opportunity to meet more people like them with a shared passion for all things related to landscaping. Meeting various recruiters also helps build networking connections for post- graduation job hunting. Participating in NCLC can give you a jumpstart in job searching by allowing you to put yourself out there to various employers.”
