THE NALP EXPERIENCE Focus On: Climate Change

CLIMATE CHANGE AFFECTS ALL OF US. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT our industry helps create and maintain healthy green spaces that help fight climate change. However, most people don’t know how their backyards, parks, and green spaces help fight climate change. Now it’s time to share that message with the public.

“Our government relations team is

tracking legislation and new govern- ment efforts on climate change, and there has been a big uptick this year with the new administration,” says Andrew Bray, NALP VP of government relations. “We want to help to ensure that our industry has a voice in how our country begins to address climate change because we can are part of the solution.”

In April, during National Lawn Care Month, NALP launched a campaign to help educate the public about the basics of how plants, trees, and grass fight climate change through the sequestration of carbon, creation of oxygen, and energy savings. The key elements include an animated video and infographic that shares our story, created by the Emmy® Award-Winning

animation company Digital Brew. NALP members can access and use the video and infographic to use on their own social media channels. Find it by searching “public relations toolkit” on the NALP website. “For many years, we have been sharing individual facts and promoting the environmental benefits of healthy lawns and landscapes, but now we are framing the discussion in terms of the big picture – and that is climate change,” says Lisa Stryker, NALP VP of marketing and communications. The focus on climate change mes- saging is a collaboration of NALP’s Government Affairs Council, Market- ing Advisory Council, and Lawn Care Committee. You are encouraged to use the resources so that together, we can help educate the public. TLP
