ecoming a dentist is an altruis- tic decision, one often driven by a deep-rooted desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Dentists devote their careers to im- proving patient health, alleviating pain and boosting confidence through brighter smiles. As clinicians, they play a critical role in main- taining and improving community health. Yet, clinicians have opportunities to amplify their positive effect on community health and the field of dentistry—by educating the next generation of dental professionals.


As faculty, dentists have the ability to extend their reach beyond individual patient care. They address the broader issue of access to care while contributing to student growth. Whether in the classroom or in the patient care center, faculty members impart their knowledge and expertise to students who need role models and mentors. Furthermore, educating the next generation ensures com- munities continue to receive high-quality oral healthcare for years to come.


Demand for skilled dental profession- als continues to rise nationwide, not only in clinics and private practices but also in classrooms where future dentists begin their journeys. Across Missouri’s three dental schools, numerous career opportunities are available to dental professionals interested in transitioning their careers to academia.
