Next Trick


I usually see these talented individuals and their assistants on late night television or perhaps in a video on a website. Watching them always leaves me with a sense of “how did they do that?” Whether they are predicting the playing card their “volunteer” has chosen or tearing a $100 bill in half only to have it reappear completely intact, the performer always seems to come through with the perfect finish to their unbelievable act. It certainly seems to reason that the performer of the illusion went through a long and tedious practice regimen before appearing in front of an audience or camera. Have you ever witnessed the talents of a professional magician or illusionist performing an amazing “trick”?


of the trick many times, perfecting the timing and solving for obstacles or parts of the process that did not work as originally planned. But imagine the embarrassment of a novice taking to the stage to perform a complex trick, having never practiced or prepared for the outcome. The odds of failure would be quite high, and the audience would be left unsatisfied for what they had expected to see or experience. So, it stands to reason that the level of success for the trick would be in direct correlation to the amount of preparation and practice time spent making it work.
