CAMPUS The Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine campus is located on 330 acres, 1.5 miles southwest of the Auburn University main campus in Auburn, Alabama.
HISTORY
Auburn’s veterinary program was founded in 1892 and is the seventh oldest existing program for veterinary education in the country. Auburn has accepted Kentucky students through the Southern Regional Education Board program since 1951. Over 1,900 Auburn DVM graduates have benefitted from the contract with Kentucky. Of those employed at graduation, 68% returned immediately to the commonwealth. Approximately 57% of KVMA members graduated from Auburn.

LICENSURE
To practice clinical veterinary medicine in the United States, students must pass the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam (NAVLE). The pass rate for the Class of 2024 was 95%, compared to the national average of 88% over the same period.
RESEARCH
Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine faculty secured 138 projects totaling over $14 million in external funding.

CLINICAL SERVICES The college maintains a 208,000 square foot small animal referral teaching hospital that sees more than 19,400 cases per year, and a 74,000 square foot large animal teaching hospital that sees almost 6,200 cases per year and has the highest food animal caseload in the nation.
CONTINUING EDUCATION
Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine offers multiple continuing education programs each year. In 2023, it served 675 participants, many of whom were from Kentucky.

UNIQUE EXPERIENCES
For the DVM Class of 2024, Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine students logged more than 16,160 hours in externship experiences within clinical practices, private referral practices, government agencies, zoos and institutional settings. Approximately 1,920 of the externship hours were completed in Kentucky.
During the 2023-24 academic year, students participated in more than 3,240 hours of practice management rotations to facilitate student learning and business optimization, while completing comprehensive business assessments with the owners of 11 veterinary practices, three of which are in Kentucky. During the 2024-25 academic year, students participated in more than 2,980 hours at 8 practices, two of which are in Kentucky.
