A year of gratitude I


t has been a year since I joined SIR, and I am deeply grateful for the warm welcome I have received from members, staff and partners.


Everyone has been generous with their time and energy and most importantly, their passion. Interventional radiology is a distinctive specialty supported by an engaged, eager, and motivated community, and I feel privileged to be part of it.


This has been an incredibly busy year for SIR as we approved our new strategic mission and reorganized our priorities accordingly. The fi eld of interventional radiology faces countless opportunities and challenges, and to address them eff ectively, we must proceed methodically, ensuring that we have the foundation, infrastructure, and information needed to set our members up for success. To that end, much of our work this year has revolved around a key aspect of our strategic mission: identifying the value of IR.


Gathering insight A critical fi rst step is gathering reliable information and asking the right questions of the right people. Over the next few years, SIR will be working with experts to clarify IR’s unique identity and explore how it can diff erentiate itself within the broader healthcare landscape. We will examine market trends and anticipate how both IR is likely to evolve over the next decade. This insight will guide our strategic planning and help us secure a growing scope, infl uence and impact for IR through 2035 and beyond.


Proving value with VIRTEX While these strategic conversations are essential, they require time and patience. I am therefore especially grateful that much of the work proving IR’s value is already underway through the VIRTEX registry.

The fi eld of interventional radiology faces countless opportunities and challenges, and to address them eff ectively, we must proceed methodically, ensuring that we have the foundation, infrastructure, and information needed to set our members up for success.


We are entering the second year of VIRTEX and have already achieved several signifi cant milestones. Production targets have been exceeded, and engagement from participating sites and corporate partners has surpassed our expectations. More than 12 sites are now enrolled, and we are now capturing high quality data on nearly 200 distinct procedures.


In the coming weeks and months, SIR members will likely hear a lot about VIRTEX, how it works and what it means for the future of IR. It is a complex and sophisticated data registry that is just as unique and innovative as the specialty it is capturing.


VIRTEX will enable practices to demonstrate that IR therapies can serve as fi rst line solutions by supplying robust, evidence based data. This will help reduce treatment variation, inform the development and implementation of clinical practice guidelines and establish national benchmarks that improve patient care. The potential impact is extensive: supporting research, monitoring safety


and eff ectiveness, driving quality based payment initiatives, enhancing reimbursement, expanding coverage and more.


By enrolling in VIRTEX, you gain access to a tool that not only benefi ts your practice but also contributes directly to the future of IR. It is more than technology; it is a strategic asset that positions interventional radiology at the forefront of data driven healthcare.


You do not need to be a practice leader or administrator to become a VIRTEX champion.
