President’s Message
Duncan Kirk, CIC, CIRMS Chapter President
The theme of this Journal’s issue is ‘Roll Up Your Sleeves.’ How appropriate for a non-profit such as ours where volunteers bring the energy, initiative, and experience to ensure that we cater to our membership’s needs. A big thank you goes to every member who is giving of their time or contributing resources. Without you we would not be successful in providing the programming and opportunities that we do.
Pitching in for your reading pleasure this issue are many first time contributors. Attorney Ronald Housh and manager Lynn Logan share their perspectives on the ramifications of residing with foreclosing neighbors, an all too common occurrence these days as I can personally attest to! Foreclosures are the result of the inability to pay one’s obligations. To this end, Darron Hay pens an article on the topic of collection agencies. On a lighter note, Joe Shearer, the onsite manager at Dominion Terrace HOA in Sequim, writes an upbeat article on building community while another association, Admiralty House Condominium, shares their experiences in passing a smoking ban from board member Ernie Smith’s perspective. Rounding out our first time authors is Stuart Wilkinson who helps navigate us through the complexities of sidewalks and explains who is responsible for what.
Two highly regarded presenters and previous contributors complete the articles for this issue of the Journal. Margo Keller navigates us through the mediation process while attorney Dan Zimberoff addresses the thorny issue of online privacy.
By the time this issue reaches your hands you may find it on our website www.wscai.org. With this initiative it is our hope that you will encourage interested parties to read the offerings on-line and see what else WSCAI is providing in terms of resources and opportunities. This will make it easier for you to ask them to join our community and become a member.
In my travels around to various committee meetings, educational seminars, and events I have seen the level of commitment and interest rising. The Chapter Board of Directors and various committees are working hard to foster an environment of opportunities and growth in ones self while meeting the needs of our membership. The enthusiasm is contagious! I’d like to acknowledge a couple of initiative takers: Tony Rafel, Rafel Law Group, PLLC and John Galluzzo, Farmers Insurance for co-chairing the newly formed Business Partners Committee. Your guidance will be their success.
Finally I’d like to recognize a new member of the Chapter’s Board of Directors, Sarah Anderson, CMCA, AMS, The CWD Group, Inc., AAMC, who fills the spot vacated by Ken Beebe who moved to Oregon. Your youthful enthusiasm will keep the energy high and the ideas flowing!
