Over the years, Hovland’s job at Red Wing Shoe Company de-    department. She attended a two-year college while working full-time. The company sells work shoes and work boots all over the world. People who work in the oil industry are among the company’s many customers. Her work in the quality department has taken her to points throughout the United States and the world, including Japan. Love of Horses

Many aspects of training young horses is appealing to Hovland. Competing on them is rewarding as well. Diamonds is a family favorite. Hovland has had her since she was born and has been able to relish in her progress. Diamonds was actu- ally born on Danyelle’s birth- day, April 29, and will become Danyelle’s barrel horse. Dany- elle helps ride her mother’s horses when she has work or other commitments. During Di- amond’s 4-year-old year, Dany- elle spent most of the summer riding her and doing slow work


with her and she still does most of the riding on her. The small, gritty mare always tries hard.  really fun horse to ride. She just loves to run barrels. You can just  Hovland enjoys competing in the futurity and derby divisions be- cause the horses are about the same age. It takes some of the pressure off the horse and rider. The duo is able to focus more on learning and less on training to go fast and win. It’s also a lot of fun.  
