With the New Year comes new members, new corporate partners, and new business opportunities—for our partners, for the WSCA, and most importantly, for you!


This issue of Plexus focuses on the business of chiropractic, and it also features a comprehensive listing of the WSCA


Marketplace. As you flip through the pages, I’m sure you’ll notice a number of new companies that have recently joined, and chiefly among them, a new field that has recently opened up to chiropractic. That is Cannabis Health and Beauty Aids, or CHABA. In September of last year, the Chiropractic Quality Assurance Commission issued an FAQ sheet stating its position on CBD and CHABA, clarifying that chiropractors are permitted to use and sell those CBD products that fit within the definition of CHABA.


CHABA is defined in RCW 69.50.575 and that statute is spelled out in one of the following articles, so I won’t rehash that here. But the reason we have chosen to provide this information is that throughout 2019, and continuing this year, the WSCA has received near daily calls from chiropractors throughout the state wanting to know if they can use CBD products yet.


The newly revised mission of the WSCA is “Helping Chiropractors Help Patients,” and we take the fulfillment of this mission seriously. A major part of that includes being a reliable resource for information on all that affects the profession of chiropractic in Washington, and inquiring minds want to know about CBD/CHABA.


The WSCA recognizes that CHABA may not be right for you to include in your practice. But we also recognize that it will be right for some of our members’ practices, and many are using it now. So while this is not meant to be the “CHABA edition” of Plexus, the apparent confusion surrounding it exemplifies why the WSCA is here to help provide clarity on such matters.


More than being just a conduit for commerce, Plexus magazine is a place for you to learn. We hope that the information provided here gives you that clarity and helps you in making the important decisions about how you manage your practice, and which vendors you work with. And regardless of which products you incorporate into your practice, know that the WSCA is here working every day for you—all of you—helping chiropractors help patients.
