Spotlight: The Programs Committee

The Programs Committee, co-chaired by Jacqueline Foster and Katy Howe, works hard to provide entertaining and educational programs for the monthly Chapter luncheons. You may be surprised at the complex process that goes on behind the scenes to “produce the show.”

It all starts with brainstorming sessions in June to determine topics for the following year. The committee looks at surveys from luncheon attendees to see what subjects might be of interest. The committee also considers ideas from committee members when developing topics of interest. Once a list of possibilities is drafted, the committee decides how to best schedule them throughout the year. For instance, the committee might present landscape topics in spring, legislative developments in November and something fun and uplifting for December. The topic list is submitted to the CAI-OC Board for approval.

Once approved, the committee assigns two to four coordinators to manage each one of the presentations. Each “team” of coordinators includes at least one person with prior program experience. Now the hard work begins. The            presented, make sure the content is aligned with the purpose for each event, assist with marketing the program, rehearse the program, be prepared to introduce the speakers, help set everything up at the luncheon and then  appears pretty seamless for luncheon attendees.

Most luncheon speakers are CAI members, recommended and chosen by the committee. Sometimes outside experts are invited to speak.

The Programs Committee is always looking for new members and new ideas. The committee needs people who are involved with CAI and keep their eyes and ears open for possible topics of interest to our homeowners, managers             
