GOOD OLD FASHIONED CUSTOMER SERVICE
Making a sale is one thing, but customer service can seal a deal or make a one-time purchaser a repeat customer. In the nursery rhyme, I just picture this jovial kind of guy selling muffins. People line up to purchase his muffins because he gives them a delightful experience. That’s the kind of service we all try to give and expect from others. It’s a depth of character that surfaces when a vendor loves his work. Jovial like the muffin man singing as he works. It should come as second nature to everyone but as you probably know, some people have to reach deep for it. It’s with this same passion that an above-average vendor trains his employees and institutes good systems and company values. Does this sound like the kind of muffin you are enjoying?
REFERENCES ARE IMPORTANT
“This is the best muffin.” Maybe you have heard something like that in reference to any product or service. If someone in an unsolicited manner blurts out “this is the best anything,” we should all stop and take note. Myself, I frequent a little donut shop, about which I boast as selling the most delicious donuts. Often I
hear my customers say as I pass them out, “This is the best donut I’ve ever had.” I even see my customers in that same donut shop buying more donuts. These word- of-mouth references in the trades usually are reflective about something above and beyond in the marketplace that they create. Don’t be afraid to ask your vendors for references. When you get a list, I suggest you spend some time with it. Call the vendor’s previous clients or customers and ask about their experiences, request they give you specific details. Dig into that very question, why do you like your vendor so much? You might also ask the vendor, what is it that you do so well for your client? Listen to the references and they will point you in the right direction of a vendor with the “Muffin Man attitude and product.”
It is understood that there are many other deciding factors in expanding your vendor base or choosing a proper vendor. But generally, wouldn’t you love to know the Muffin Man version of a contractor for a project you are planning?
