AGC Member Firms Embrace Safety Stand-Down Events

Several AGC of California member

contractors hosted safety awareness events in May as part of a national effort to raise awareness and increase safety in the con- struction industry. AGC member contractors participating

in this year’s National Safety Stand-Down for Fall Protection week included Granite Construction Company, Griffith Com- pany, Hensel Phelps, Blach Construction and Skanska USA, among others. The con- tractors highlighted safety on their job- sites, joining what OSHA said was a record number of companies and workers around the country that participated in the annual effort intended to raise awareness of pre- venting fall hazards in construction. Griffith Company hosted an event on

May 12 at its Marblehead project in San Clemente, CA. Guests to the jobsite includ- ed FED OSHA, OSHA Training Institute, and the company’s insurance carrier. The crew enjoyed barbecue, some raffles, and meaningful discussion about the impor- tance of utilizing fall protection. Granite Construction held a similar

event at its Folsom Dam project earlier in the month, as did other AGC member contractors in various locations around the state. This year, OSHA’s goal was for more than 20,000 Stand-Downs involving more

than workers

3 million between

the National Safe- ty Stand-Down for Fall Protec- tion days in May. OSHA noted that if that goal was met, at

least four

out of 10 construc- tion workers in the country will have been reached with message about the importance of fall protection. Fat a l i t i e s by
