CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY TRENDS Continued from page 17

workers to jobs in construction. Last but not least, we think the

industry’s move toward the “as-a- service model” of acquiring technology will continue to gain momentum even in the coming months and into the next several years. Te subscription model helps level the playing field for small contractors who want access to the same technology solutions as their larger competitors.

California Constructor: Trimble recently released its first Sustainability Report. What was the impetus behind developing it, and why was it important to create this comprehensive roadmap detailing your solutions, processes, technologies, etc.?

Scott Crozier: With an estimated 40% of greenhouse gasses contributed by the construction industry worldwide, sustainability of construction is not a topic we can ignore. In 2017, Trimble published a Responsible Corporate Citizenship (RCC) Report detailing how our mission of “Transforming the Way the World Works” represents our commitments as a company, employer, and contributor to society. Our work – and language – has

evolved since that first report and refers to both our own efforts and to the outcomes and impact we seek to create with our clients. Trimble’s 2020 Sustainability Report summarizes our sustainability initiatives and perfor- mance across material environmental, social, and governance (ESG) topics.

California Constructor: Are there ways that Trimble is helping move the needle on sustainable practices by others within the industry?

Scott Crozier: We are having a positive impact on sustainable construction practices because our tools help customers cut down on waste and reduce emissions by getting the job right the first time. For example, our software and analytics technology like SketchUp

Field layout solutions like Trimble FieldLink enable contractors to precisely locate points from 3D models in the field and deliver accurate data back to the office for complete as- built information.

PreDesign and Sephaira help users create eco-friendly models, while also considering other aspects of the project’s environmental impact such as material, water and energy needs. File-sharing systems like Trimble

Connect and Quadri ensure that everyone has the most recent set of plans and is working toward the same goals, which means there is less room for error. Extended reality and 3D modeling help project owners commit to project plans early-on, and BIM tools help project teams conserve materials. Across our product portfolio, our technology helps contractors work more efficiently, reduce rework, and eliminate material waste – all of which leads to more environmentally friendly and sustainable construction.

California Constructor: Why is Environmental Social Governance (ESG) top of mind for Trimble now, and where are you focusing the largest share of your resources when it comes to building a more sustainable company for the future?

For decades, sustainability has been

at the core of Trimble’s solutions and culture. At Trimble, sustainability is crucial to ensuring that we remain true

to our mission, “Transforming the Way the World Works,” while fulfilling our commitments as a company, an employer, and a contributor to society. Trimble delivers business solutions

that create a more sustainable world. Today and in the future, sustainability will be a powerful influence in shaping our strategy and positioning our business for greater success in an ever- changing environment. It is important that we provide our stakeholders with insight into Trimble’s sustainability efforts, allowing them to accompany us as we venture further on our sustain- ability journey. As we shape and grow our

purpose-driven organization, Trimble will continue to take a meaningful, deliberate approach that balances stakeholder needs with the pursuit of our company mission. We will continue to prioritize responsible stewardship of shareholder capital, delivering innovative solutions to customers and maintaining a strong, inspirational culture for employees. We will evaluate aspects of our business in the pursuit of ongoing improvement as well as explore opportunities where our operations and actions can create a positive impact on global economies, the environment, and society. n
