Compounding Value Across an Organization
Te second point I want to make
is around a fundamental principle that should guide your technology decisions. In real estate, we’ve all heard the
phrase, “location, location, location.” Essentially, it has proven to be a timeless principle about leverage. It means that location, above any other variable in real estate, has the most influence on value. I believe the construction industry
needs to apply this principle to technology, as it perfectly fits with today’s demands of operating in excel- lence. Why do anything if it’s not aimed at serving as the most beneficial? So what’s the opportunity with
technology? Te answer can’t be comprehensive or a generalization; we’ve got to get to something specific
and manageable.
Proactive Vs. Reactive Te opportunity with technology
relates back to this specific principle about leverage. Wherever you decide to invest with technology, think about how it will optimize a specific workflow. Tink about a workflow, that if you optimized all the processes within it, it will create compounding value with all of the other related and dependent business processes. At Rhumbix, our philosophy is that
the workflow involved with collecting actual project data (e.g. timekeeping and production) is the most leveraged workflow to increasing value. If you digitize the first workflow in your actual project lifecycle, data then can become immediately available to anyone in the company; think efficient payroll processing, automated production insights, and having structured database of unit rates to inform future and more competitive
estimates. Te fundamental shift here is enabling your company to become more proactive, rather than reactive. Just by digging in and solving for these problems, your operation can eliminate a lot of the stress and inefficiencies that we’ve all become accustomed to. I could continue to spell out all the
benefits that Rhumbix can bring your company, but human nature would soon kick in and it will seem like I’m trying to sell you Rhumbix. But I’m not. I’m trying to propose a perspective that explains the importance of not just optimizing for singular efficiency purposes, but to implement technology for compounding value across the entire organization. And the greatest leverage towards more value is under- standing actual vs planned data on a daily basis.
