IBLN announces its 2014- 2016 Board

IBLN recently held IBLN Executive Board elections. The new IBLN leadership for 2014-2016: Leslie Morgan, President - head, Teaching & Instructional Services, University of Notre Dame; Rodney Freeman, Vice President/President Elect - branch manager, Indianapolis Public Library, Spades Park Branch; Shanika Heyward, Treasurer - community branch manager, Indianapolis Public Library, East 38th Street Branch; Cassaundra Day, Secretary - assistant children’s librarian, Anderson Public Library; Chanitra Bishop, Past President - digital scholarship & emerging technologies librarian, Indiana University Bloomington.

On behalf of the Indiana Black Librarian’s Network, special thanks to BCALA for recognizing our work with the Affiliate Chapter of the Year award. It is an honor to receive the award along with the NY Black Librarians Caucus, an especially active chapter. IBLN has made an effort to provide members with professional development and has worked to increase our visibility. One of our most successful events has been hosting Meet and Greets at conferences. IBLN hosted its first Meet n Greet at ACRL [Association of College and Research Libraries] in 2013 and hosted another Meet n Greet at PLA [Public Library Association] in 2014. The Meet n Greet provided opportunities for members to network with librarians from around the country. IBLN has been and continues to be a strong supporter of BCALA. Thank you again for the award.
Erik Ponder Wins BCALA- Chicago Scholarship

The Chicago Chapter of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association is pleased to announce that Erik Ponder is the winner of the 2014 Charlemae Hill Rollins Scholarship. Ponder is enrolled in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, LEEP Program. The LEEP program is a, ‘‘hybrid program that combines web-based education with brief periods of on-campus instruction.”
The Charlemae Hill Rollins Scholarship was established by the Chicago Chapter, Black Caucus of ALA in 1982. The Charlemae Hill Rollins Scholarship has been offered for 30 years. The Scholarship is named in memory of the outstanding African American children’s librarian, writer, lecturer, and educator, Charlemae Hill Rollins (1897 - 1979). Mrs. Rollins was a children’s librarian in the George C. Hall Branch of the Chicago Public Library from January, 1932 to July, 1963, when she retired.
