Cover shows the Cambrian-age Chapel Rock Member of the Munising Formation, overlooking Lake Superior along the Pictured Rocks shore- line between Chapel Rock and Grand Portal Point. Cross-bedding is vis- ible above the conglomerate layer of the Chapel Rock Member near the waterline. The rock consists primarily of well-sorted, medium-grained quartz sandstone. The source of the sand was the Northern Michigan Highlands, formerly located to the south of the Pictured Rocks. Photo by Sara Verbrugge-Pearson, CPG-10650.
