President’s Message A

s summer winds to a close, budget season heats up. I guess

that is okay, in a way, as sitting at a desk working on a budget is much more tolerable when the rainy fall weather is upon us as opposed to the beautiful sunshine of summer.

Just in time for budget season, this month’s edition of the Journal features an article on supplemental budgets  which are another important tool within your association’s  community association.

Our largest trade show of the year, CA Day, is coming up  know it, so now is the time to get your registration in before pricing goes up on September 27th! Whether you are a homeowner, community association board member or a Business Partner, this event is a must. We will be offering a plethora of educational opportunities and the trade show features vendors for all things community association from management companies to attorneys to insurance agents to landscapers to reserve studies and more. Plus, you will have  offered by our exhibitors.

On our farm we have a horse, chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats, a cat and a dog. It amazes me to watch them co-habitate together. They are from different species, yet they all live in harmony. The cat loves the goats and sleeps with them every chance she gets. The turkeys, chickens and ducks all wander around together, searching for those delicious bugs. Often,  and are following the goats around, hollering “gobble gobble” as if the goats can understand them.

This is a humbling reminder that if these critters can get along despite their two and four legged fur and feather differences, so can we. In community associations, it is easy to get caught up in emotions. You might be frustrated at that neighbor down the road who refuses to put their trash can away after

pick-up day, or hurt that someone referred a client to your competitor instead of to you. It’s easy to forget that we are all here for the same thing; to enjoy our homes and better our industry. All of these frustrations are small in the big picture.

So please, be kind. Be kind to your neighbors, to your Business Partners, to your colleagues and to your friends. Because at the end of the day, we are all just a bunch of chickens, ducks and turkeys searching for bugs in the same pasture.

Sincerely, Karen McDonald, CMCA, AMS, PCAM, RS Chapter President
