mending your association’s governing documents may seem like a daunting project, but there are plenty of success stories we can draw from to overcome some of the challenges. I’m going to share strategies and creative ideas that have made the amendment process easier for many of my association clients and you can decide which would work for your community.


Keeping Owners In The Loop


The best advice for a successful governing document amendment project is to involve owners early and often. Owner participation is key for a number of reasons. It lessens the workload for board members and managers, provides a better understanding of what the community as a whole will support, gives vocal owners an opportunity to share their opinions and shape the end result, and is often effective in overcoming the challenges of apathy and mistrust.
