President’s Message Troy Brogdon, Chapter President

Reporting to you from sunny Las Vegas Nevada! I’m down here at the CAI National Conference with several of our local chapter members, the Chapter’s Executive Director, Michelle Leary, and your President-elect, Alicia Graham, PCAM. enjoying the conference and Alicia is participating

I’m

in the President-elect training that National CAI presents over the course of the event. The whole event is massive and gives us something to aspire to with our CA Day. Most importantly for today, it’s sunny! After I finish this, I’m headed to the pool. To be honest, I haven’t event checked the weather in Washington, but I’m sure it’s raining. I’m hopeful next year isn’t quite as wet as this past year otherwise, I’m going to have to reevaluate those plans I put on the back burner to construct an Ark in my backyard.

We had a busy March, but April had quite a few things going as well. The Chapter hosted the second Law Day of the year at the Lynnwood Convention Center on April 29. That was a great opportunity to get education on a variety of legal topics so if you didn’t get to that one or the first one in SeaTac, you missed out. Some attendees even brag that they received hundreds of dollars’ worth of free legal advice. In addition, these two events also directly support the Legislative Action Committee (LAC).

We had a Board Leadership Development Workshop (BLD Workshop) at Law Day in Lynnwood to complement the other two that we conducted this month in Bellevue and Bellingham. I’d like to extend a personal thank you to Paul Grucza, PCAM for conducting every one of the BLD Workshops this year. It certainly doesn’t go unnoticed! If any other association managers would like to teach a BLD Workshop in the future, please reach out to Michelle Leary.

The Outreach Committee, along with several member volunteers, participated in their Earth Day event on April 18 and helped Silver Glen Cooperative with several projects around their property. Business Partners graciously donated time and materials towards the endeavor. Thank you to all who participated! The Outreach Committee is heading over to the Ronald McDonald House for their annual visit on the May 24, so mark your calendars.

In other news: Mariner’s Baseball is in full swing. It looks like we might even have a decent shot at a pennant. We’ll just have to wait and see. You know baseball season makes me think of something else: hotdogs! The best way to cook a hotdog is to throw it on a grill, but you should probably know a little more about grills before firing one up in your community. Check out Jerry Ringenberg’s article in this Journal to learn more. While you’re at it, check out the wonderful spread of articles we have for this month. Allison Peryea, Esq. provided a relevant piece on construction easements and agreements which is a topic that has become more prevalent recently as the construction market in Washington continues to boom. You’ll also find information about storm water drain maintenance, unapproved condominium modifications, a checklist for selling a unit and most importantly stories about mothers. After all Mother’s Day is coming up on May 14 this year! Celebrate your mom! You only have one.

Now if you don’t mind, it’s time for me to navigate through the windowless casino floor past the card tables, clanging one-armed bandits, and endless buffet to find my wife down at the pool basking in the sun. No doubt she’s probably sunburned.
