President’s Message

Dear WSCAI Members, At the beginning of each year, the Board of Directors and Committee

Chairs participate

in a Strategic Planning Meeting to review the past year and plan for the upcoming year. During our meeting, each person was to present an object that represented what we expected for 2021. This exercise was a fun ice breaker and revealed interesting perspectives of each member that participated. I chose two objects that represented the “Force” and “Tenacity” in which our Chapter displayed in 2020 and continues to do so in 2021.

Oddly enough, my family had gifted me two action figures (my first ever) that fit the task at hand. First was baby Yoda aka Grogu for those Star Wars fanatics. While I am not a huge Star Wars fan I did enjoy the spinoff and this little cutie with amazing force.

My second figure was of Ruth Bader Ginsberg. Not only was she an inspiration to many of us but demonstrated strength and tenacity as a woman and a leader. Melissa Guyott has contributed an inspiring article this month regarding Women in Leadership in Community Associations while honoring many of her colleagues and mentors involved with WSCAI.

Of course in my “show and tell” photo (above) I had to capture my almost no longer kittens. Check out the article New Puppy Next Door in this month’s Journal. I have personally witnessed this phenomenon while sitting in my home office and watching the neighbor’s new four legged friends walk the block. I guess I wasn’t the only one who needed a little more company this past year.

Although Punxsutawney Phil predicted 6 more weeks of winter (and it appears he wasn’t wrong) it is important to start looking forward to Spring and projects needed to

maintain your Association. And in this era of “staying home” we are spending more time planning for upcoming outdoor projects and refurbishing our homes. The articles Remodels for Value and Livability and Nine Best Practices for Planning Your 2021 Building Repair Project will provide guidance as to how to approach these projects.

And finally, whether we choose to stay at home longer or venture out for a little travel, Indoor Air Quality 101 provides valuable information with respect to methods available to make the air around us safer in the future.

Let’s not forget about community association governance. It is no secret our local real estate market continued to thrive throughout 2020 and continues to do so. The article Transitioning Communities to WUCIOA provides a reminder of the laws new communities (or older communities who have adopted the Act) must adhere to.

I am anxious to get back out into the world and hope it continues to open up. Until then, “May the Force be with You” and stick to the “Safety Dance” as revived by Alaska Airlines.

Sincerely, Amy S. Clements, ARM, CIRMS, Chapter President (800) 228-1930 | aclements@cauinsure.com
