ere we are in the height of summer, enjoying the beautiful


sunny weather that Washington has to offer. I hope you are getting plenty of time to get outside and enjoy it!


Once again, this month’s Journal is packed with articles to help improve


community living in your association. Drought resistant landscaping is always a popular topic especially with this year’s low snowpack in the mountains, therefore be sure to check out Scott Selby’s article on ways to reduce irrigation needs in your community. Jackie Cleveland has penned an article on the do’s and don’ts of conducting business outside of a regular meeting, which is a very important topic for many associations as oftentimes items come up in between meetings and a board needs to know how to properly handle these items.


As a reminder our largest trade show of the year is rapidly approaching and let me tell you, we have another action-  information on this year’s CA Day, scheduled for Saturday,  you there!


Back in May, Chapter Executive Director Michelle Leary, President Elect Tony Rafel and I jetted off to Orlando, Florida to attend the annual CAI conference. One of the themes at that conference was “One Thing” which was sharing one new piece of knowledge with someone, and then that person would share a piece of knowledge with another person, and the chain would continue. So today, I’d like to share what I hope is a new piece of information for you. Last year, we adopted a group of turkeys to raise on our farm. Turkeys are a real hoot to have around because they are generally very friendly and come right up to you when you enter their pen. But, did you know that the male turkeys can change the color of their head? The color changes between red, white and blue (and often a


 and can become strikingly light or dark in color. It’s amazing to watch the color of their head change throughout the day. So, now you have a new piece of information to share at the dinner table tonight!
