Bricks, concrete and a dizzying array of other items in copious quantities are hauled out of remodel, repair, and maintenance construction projects every day. A contractor’s job often includes “demolish  what does “Dispose offsite” really mean?

In two parts, “dispose” means, get rid of; “offsite” means, not here. Because the dispose phase of demo jobs happens much faster than the prep and install phase of the project, we barely see it, and as a result, barely think about it. But the how and the where are important. As responsible citizens who care about our impact on the planet, let’s examine this in better detail.

Recycle To Reduce Costs Contractors basically have three costs on every job:  Demolition/disposal old materials  New materials  Labor

Costs must be controlled at each level, and because  contractors often look to reclaim reusable materials from jobs to help defray costs and be more competitive.

Landscapers, for example, usually keep a mulch pile where all the sod, grass clippings, dead plants, etc. goes to be reborn. That same landscaper will also reclaim any pavers,  neatly for later. If it can be cleaned up and reused, it will be.

Other waste materials are delivered to a third-party recycler. For example, concrete chunks from an old driveway or

As disposal/recycling requirements become stricter, new opportunities to capitalize on recycling will continue to grow, creating more cost-effective option for contractors.
