President’s Message Sarah Anderson, PCAM®, Chapter President Start of the Year–Annual Meetings and New Boards

Happy New Year! If you are anything like me, over the course of the next few weeks you will mistakenly reference dates from the past until you adjust to typing or writing 2014. Perhaps

this is out of denial another year has passed. The good news is there is a very exciting year ahead for WSCAI.

Each year the Chapter hosts a Strategic Planning Session in which Committee Chairs and the Board of Directors gather to brainstorm ideas on how to improve the Chapter and the services that it offers. The November 15 Strategic Planning Session was very successful. Our unified focus on events, education and membership provided us the opportunity to look at ways committees can partner in supporting the success of our Chapter. It is amazing how many great ideas surface when committees speed date! A special thanks goes out to all the participants who set aside a day to brainstorm how we can continue to enhance the value of education and promote membership throughout Washington State.

Another exciting development was the establishment of the WSCAI Board officer roles following the Annual Meeting. I am excited to announce Deverick Martin will be serving as President-           time in which a homeowner member will serve as President of WSCAI. Deverick is an incredibly kind, innovative, thoughtful and organized community leader. While I am not yet at the point of transferring the medieval, spiked gavel handed down by my

predecessor, I must say it will be great to celebrate another first for our Chapter.

In a process very similar to our Chapter, community associations are entering into the infamous annual meeting season. As a newly elected board member, you are immediately signed up for a crash course in board dynamics, governance and corporation oversight. As a collective board, you are tasked with establishing officer roles, developing a teamwork strategy and setting goals for the coming year. This month, we hope the perspective and insight of the content developed by the contributing industry professionals will assist in making 2014 a great year for all Chapter members and community associations.

There is always more that can be done to spread the knowledge and resources of the Chapter to people who may not know that such an organization exists. We encourage each of you to consider sharing the benefits you have experienced since becoming a member of WSCAI with others. Our Chapter’s Membership Committee, Board of Directors and Staff are here to support you in the recruitment process and welcome any feedback you may have about promoting membership overall.

Here’s to a great start to the year! Wishing you the best,

Sarah Anderson, PCAM®
