Collections Do’s and Don’ts and Best Practices

Valerie Farris Oman

The collection of unpaid assessments is a significant challenge for many community associations, even with the economic recovery and real estate boom we are experiencing today. Recent economic growth has wrought some changes in how associations can and should approach delinquencies, while other best practices remain tried and true regardless of circumstances. The intent of this article is to provide readers with a summary of the strategies community associations – and their boards, managers, and attorneys – can employ to maximize an association’s ability to recover unpaid assessments.
