The business of chiropractic, one of my favorite topics!


The first few years of my practice I was consumed with the basics. Getting new patients in the door. Working on retention issues. Collecting enough money to stay in business.


Fortunately for me the first few years were very financially successful. That posed a new set of problems in that if you live broke for a long while, then get an influx of cash, some may not make the wisest choices with their newfound fortune! A classic quote I learned from a place I used to buy my toys from was “a fool and his money are welcome anywhere.”


After the initial excitement passes, hopefully in addition to being chiropractors, we have businesses that need to be ran as such. Most of us did not have that training or mindset out of school. It was simply more, more, more!


There is the art of being a great chiropractor, and an art to being a great business person. We need to not forget that.


And what about savings and investments? A regular savings/ retirement plan pays off enormously with regular contributions over time. That is wise business.


The end of any great business is the exit which will happen someday, like it or not. What will that look like? Will you try to sell a job or a business? What will that successful business look like? Will it be attractive enough that people will be lining up at your door banging it down?


Better to go to work on that business vision now rather than at the last minute.
