AICPA Leadership Academy 

he AICPA is hosting the 2020 Leadership Academy October 4-8 at the Washington Duke Inn in Durham, North Carolina.


CPAs between the ages of 25 and 35 who are members of the


AICPA and the OSCPA and have three or more years of experience as a CPA are eligible to apply for this four-day leadership program. Te application deadline is May 31, 2020.


Te Leadership Academy engages candidates in a self- examination of leadership, what that means and how that impacts their personal life, career path and the CPA profession. It’s a rigorous four-day program intended to inspire, nurture and empower the next generation of CPA leaders. Te interactive dialogue with the profession’s thought leaders, and other academy participants, focuses on the issues that the profession is currently facing. Gain strong leadership ethics and the strategies to forge


relationships and become empowered to be a leader within your organization, community and your profession. Te application process includes uploading: 1. Professional photo 2. Current resume or vita 3. Two professional letters of reference 4. Two essays: • Essay #1 (500-700 words): Te future will bring significant changes to the accounting profession. What do leaders have to get right in order to successfully lead?


• Essay #2 (250-500 words): Why do you want to attend the AICPA Leadership Academy?

Te 2019 class discussed key issues and interacted with influential leaders in the profession including Bill Reeb, CPA, CITP, CGMA, AICPA chair and Association of International Certified Professional Accountants chair; Barry Melancon, CPA, CGMA, president and CEO of the AICPA and CEO of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants; and Mark Koziel, CPA, CGMA, executive vice president of Firm Services for the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants. Two of the OSCPA’s young accounting professionals – Austin


Foust, CPA, and Jana Walker, CPA – were chosen for the 2019 class and reaped the benefits of leadership exploration in both their personal and professional lives. “Te program gave me a new perspective of how I can more


effectively lead in my organization, community and the profession,” Walker said. “I left the program inspired and confident that our profession is in good hands after developing a relationship with my fellow attendees.” Te program was designed to strengthen and expand the leadership skills of promising young professionals while they network with a peer group of talented and motivated CPAs. Te 2019 participants comprised the eleventh graduating class, and nearly 400 CPAs have now graduated from the program. For questions or additional information, visit
