ANDREW HEJTMANEK

CPA, CHFP, FHFMA

Tulsa Habitat for Humanity partners with hardworking families to provide a path to homeownership. Using “sweat equity” (working with sponsors and volunteers on home builds, doing volunteer work and completing financial courses on home ownership), Habitat homebuyers are investing in themselves and their community. Since its founding in 1988, Tulsa Habitat

for Humanity has generally built between 10 and 20 homes each year. However, in 2019, business surged, and the organization built about 40 homes and is projected to reach between 80 and 90 homes by 2022. Te importance of such accomplishments—

to Tulsa and to Tulsa families—is not lost on Andrew Hejtmanek, CPA, CHFP, FHFMA. A director at BKD CPAs & Advisors in

Tulsa, Hejtmanek is a past board president and current board member for Tulsa Habitat for Humanity. “I take great pride in the leadership team at Tulsa Habitat and the role I was able to play in helping to serve our community in such a meaningful manner,” he said. Tulsa Habitat for Humanity president and CEO, Cameron Walker, said, “Without Andrew’s professional input and guidance, there is a very real possibility Tulsa Habitat for Humanity would not be experiencing the level of success we are enjoying today.” Although Hejtmanek said his involvement

with Tulsa Habitat for Humanity is the highlight of his adult life, it certainly is not his only community involvement. He also serves

GETTING TO KNOW

ANDREW 20 CPAFOCUS

What is your go-to vacation destination? The beach. Every time. The sun, sand, waves and water. My family also has a love for the mountains, but not much compares to the majesty of the ocean.

Is there anything you wish you could do that you feel you are pretty bad at? Running. Can I make my legs move in a somewhat forward direction? Sure. Not quickly or for extended periods of time, but I am working on it.

as a board member for Emergency Infant Services, Destiny Church and Boomtown Development, and is active in BKD’s annual effort with United Way Day of Caring. In addition to being a director with BKD

CPAs & Advisors, Hejtmanek also serves as a co-leader of BKD Oklahoma’s health care team, which allows him to serve his clients with as much enthusiasm as he serves his community. T. Carley Williams, CPA, a managing

partner at BKD CPAs & Advisors, said, “Over the last 12 years, [Hejtmanek] has provided audit and accounting services to hospitals and health systems, cancer treatment providers, nursing facilities, physician practices and other healthcare entities, developing himself into a thought leader in the industry.” Te Baylor University graduate described a specific issue where his thought leadership came in handy. “One of my rural hospital clients was eligible for Medicaid funding related to its use of electronic health records technology,” Hejtmanek explained. “My team was able to assist them in applying for and receiving over $1.5 million in funding over a three- year period. Given the current environment surrounding rural healthcare providers, this funding was critical to their ability to provide services to their community. “I take great pride in the fact that I played

a small role in helping them secure this funding.”

Who was your role model when you were a child? I’m not sure I fully appreciated it at the time, but my parents were — and continue to be — my role models. My mother is passionate and caring and continues to demonstrate that in her career, her passions and with her family. My father is a servant to everyone, constantly looking for ways to take care of others — he is the best person I’ve ever known.
